Major spoiler Reveal Blackstar field guide This section identifies and discusses a narratively significant legendary aerial mount.

Blackstar is recorded as a legendary aerial traversal mount. Official patch history treats Blackstar as a controllable mount with a Breath action and includes fixes for its death, water-pathing and performance behaviour.

The guide does not currently claim:

  • a verified, spoiler-safe unlock sequence;
  • unrestricted access at every story state;
  • a universal summon location;
  • confirmed armour or a dedicated armour set;
  • identical handling across every platform and frame-rate condition.

Blackstar’s value is not ordinary road speed. It is the ability to replace long ground routes with direct aerial movement where summon access and world state allow it.

Use it for:

  • crossing large terrain barriers;
  • reaching distant regions without following roads;
  • scouting route geometry from above;
  • bypassing some ground hazards;
  • long-distance travel after confirming a safe landing area.

Keep a regular or special ground mount available because aerial summon restrictions, enclosed spaces, quest states and landing terrain can make Blackstar unsuitable for the final part of a route.

  1. save before testing a new summon or landing area;
  2. summon in open terrain with clear vertical space;
  3. establish altitude before committing to a long crossing;
  4. watch stamina and avoid repeated unnecessary attacks while travelling;
  5. identify a broad landing zone before descending;
  6. dismount or dismiss away from deep water and tight collision geometry;
  7. verify the mount has left the world correctly before saving again.

Official Patch 1.06.00 fixed frame drops that could occur while using Blackstar’s Breath. This confirms the action but does not establish exact damage, resource cost, area, scaling or an optimal combat rotation.

Treat Breath as a separate test:

Do not publish damage values as verified until the target, difficulty, character state and repeat count are controlled.

  • Patch 1.01.01 fixed Blackstar remaining in place after death instead of disappearing.
  • Patch 1.06.00 fixed Breath-related frame drops.
  • Patch 1.08.00 fixed the lingering ground effect from Blackstar’s Breath.
  • Patch 1.11.00 fixed Blackstar and wyverns walking into water in certain situations.
  • Current Patch 1.15.00 does not list a new Blackstar-specific progression change.

If Blackstar remains present after death, walks into water, leaves a persistent Breath effect or produces repeatable frame drops, record the platform, save state and location as a possible regression rather than treating it as intended behaviour.

Keep a ground mount in the regular/special quickslot system for:

  • settlement interiors and narrow streets;
  • routes ending in caves, ruins or dense structures;
  • quest states where aerial mounting is restricted;
  • landing zones with water or awkward collision;
  • short resource-gathering circuits where repeated aerial setup is slower.

The canonical guide will not expose a speculative quest order. A valid unlock record requires:

Patch:
Prior story state:
Required quest or interaction:
Location:
Required item or ability:
Character restrictions:
First summon method:
Repeat summon method:
Save/reload test:
Screenshot or video evidence:

Until that record is reproduced, unlock details remain community evidence and stay outside the public spoiler-safe summary.

No Blackstar armour set is treated as confirmed. Character armour, horse tack, special-mount saddles and legendary-mount claims remain separate evidence categories.
